According to IPD principles, there is a better way of project implementation. How come? By transforming fragmented processes – producing results below expectations – into an integrated process based on cooperation. The innovative reward mechanism for all project partners is the best example of the effectiveness of such an approach. An integrated project delivery process guarantees excellent results to all participants in a construction project.

Designers, engineers, contractors and investors should think about cooperation by creating an integrated team at the early stage of an undertaking in order to define the project scope and objectives. By working together as an integrated team from the very beginning, it is possible to develop not only a common vision for the project, but also a common plan for success achievement. Integrated project delivery allows to work more efficiently, save time and money, and create a better project.

History of IPD

IPD emerged in the 1990s when a partnership agreement, the Project Alliance, for oil exploration in the North Sea was concluded. The parties developed a partnership program in which the investor ensured the coverage of direct costs – just to meet the challenges to be faced by them in the future. The payment of profit, reimbursement of overheads and the award of bonuses depended on the project results. Such a compensation system was based on the principle: "We either win together or lose together". Since the development of the model partnership terms by the North Sea oil industry, Project Alliances have been widely used in the construction industry in Australia, the United States and are still used in the United Kingdom.
